#1 It’s all about the Story

Clients be like: “Where is my product? Can you make my product pop up more? Can you make my product exist in every frame? Can you make my logo bigger?”

Well, stop selling your products and instead, tell a Story.

Storytelling has existed for centuries. Humans crave to understand the pattern of life and everyone relates to stories. When you use stories, you can connect with people emotionally and pull them along.

Do you remember that one Thai advertisement that made you shed a tear? That’s because the video evokes emotions from you: Sadness, Anger, Happiness, Nostalgia.

If you have noticed, most of Singapore’s advertisements are nostalgic that involve Family. No doubt in Singapore (or Asia culture, in general) we value filial piety, so video content mostly goes around relatable topics that hit home.

When you make the audience feel invested in your story, they will be more willing to listen and understand your products and services. The emotional connection matters. Be careful though, make sure your video has a focus so that the message it gives is straightforward and easy to understand.

Brand Story Video works. If you have an underdog or a superhero story about going through tough times and making out of it, people get inspired and touched.

Fun Fact!
Did you know that customers can easily remember a video as long as a month ago?

#2 Format, Format, Format

Where are you uploading your video to? Optimally, Facebook & Instagram has said that Square Videos work the best and we agree.

When we used to do Landscape videos, we noticed a consumer shift to square videos. Not only does Square Videos occupy more real estate (more space in the timeline), results have proven that Square Videos have CHEAPER CTR (Click-Through Rates)! With Landscape Videos, users would immediately assume that it is an advert and scroll right past it since most user-generated contents are in square format.

Of course, this goes along with the fundamentals of a good, properly formatted Video: High-Quality, Clear Sound, Music, Transitions, Filters and Subtitles! Do not ignore subtitles, most people view without sound, so your subtitle will help a lot if you have dialogues.

You would want your videos to look amazing on any device model and screen size so that you can reach out to more people. Think mobile-first, so do preview your video on a mobile device and ensure your text is legible and easy to read.

#3 Video Cover is Everything

Your Video Cover determines whether your video is watched or ignored.

“Don’t judge a book by its cover” is a common saying, but very rarely do people stand by it. Would you rather spend time watching a captivating or pixelated Video?

There are HUNDREDS OF VIDEOS available on Facebook, how would your Video stand out? Every one of them is competing for attention. Your video cover has to be compelling enough to hit the play button.

If you want your content to be engaged, it has to be a huge SCROLL-STOPPER.

This could be in the form of bold graphics that stand out and loud text that will spike interest in your viewers.

SCROLL-STOPPER is an element or a content that is so visually captivating that it stops a user from scrolling further.

Some factors to consider would be human faces for emotional connection, adding text for context, and Make your cover attention-grabbing with the best video headline and capture the attention of your audience.

#4 Enticing Video Copy & Headlines

Ever seen a YouTube Video Title that says (NOT A CLICKBAIT!) but it sure does make you click on it?

Once you manage to make them stop scrolling, supplement your video with your copy and your caption, because the caption would be the NEXT thing that they will read.

Your caption could be educational or for entertainment purposes. Provide value and teach them something or tap into trendy topics and memes. Summarise what your video is about to give context so that it will guide your audience to carry on watching the video.

Some power words to consider would be:

Write clever and effective headlines to stand out. You can even make it personal by adding one little word — you.

#5 Put Advertising Budget Behind It

One mistake that businesses often make would be relying entirely on organic algorithms with their video. While the chances of it COULD happen, it may not be idealistic if you want to see results, fast.

We would recommend putting a budget behind videos and tests to understand which video brings more results.

Remember, Don’t expect immediate results! You would have to make several changes to the variables to ensure that your videos hit your optimal goal:

  • 1. Audience in your targeting not watching your video? Make changes to your targeting. Start by tweaking their Interest, Age and Location.
  • 2. Your Audience is watching, but they are not clicking into your website or page?
Change your Copy or Creative that directs more action. This is where you test different Captions and Video Covers style.
If the video is not performing well, then it ain’t it. You may want to try another video content.
  • 3. If your Audience Retention Rate is low (a lot of people are not watching your video till the end), your video might be intriguing enough for them to watch any longer. From here, you can understand how long your audience’s attention span is.
  • 4. Try different types of Video Styles and check the Engagement Rate. Slowly increase your budget if you are confident that the video is exactly what your audience expects and wants.
